Career guidance event "Cell Geneticist" was held for Blagoveshchensk schoolchildren at the Department of Chemistry

A career guidance event for schoolchildren "Cell Geneticist" was held today at the Department of Chemistry of the Amur State Medical Academy. It was attended by students of the 8th and 11th grades of the Blagoveshchensk gymnasium No25 and school No. 26. The head of the department, Evgeny Borodin, told them about the achievements of modern genetics, and how it can be used to improve the quality of life of people, and in the future to treat many diseases.

"A great interest in modern science is riveted on the molecular biology of genes. There is an opportunity to study them well and even edit them. And along with classical genetics, we can say that a new science has now appeared - molecular genetics. It studies all the processes of heredity at the level of nucleic acid molecules. And today I will tell the children what a person with the profession of a cell geneticist will do in the very near future," said Evgeny Borodin.

In addition to the conversation and presentation, Evgeny Borodin gave the students a short tour of the department. He showed them various equipment that is used in scientific work and training students of the Academy.

"I study in a class with in-depth study of natural sciences. The field of genetics is interesting to me. This science, as well as biology and medicine in general, is developing very intensively, and I am going to connect my life with this direction. Therefore, after graduating from school, I plan to enter the Amur State Medical Academy," says Milena Filina, an 11th-grade student of gymnasium No25.

Such events at the Department of Chemistry are regularly organized for schoolchildren. In the near future, they plan to hold several more career guidance meetings here.

This year, 123 students of the 10th and 11th grades from all over the region completed their studies in specialized classes. These are schoolchildren from lyceums No11 and 6, gymnasium No25, secondary schools in Blagoveshchensk, Tambov and Ivanovo districts.

Two teams of the Amur State Medical Academy took part in the qualifying stage of the All-Russian Scientific School "Young Medicine". Under the mentorship of the project manager Victoria Zaritskaya, the guys defended their work at a regional pitch session in an online format on the basis of the Pacific State Medical University.
